Learning the game has never been easier….or more fun.
When you introduce your child to the game of golf you are giving your them a gift that will last them their entire lives. We understand that the biggest key to growing the game is to introduce kids to our sport in a fun, safe and supportive environment…to be able to do so in such a beautiful location is an added bonus.
Hitting good shots on an interesting golf course is the key to getting kids to want to play this game. With that in mind we have developed a comprehensive system that guarantees success while teaching the fundamentals. We also provide, you, the parent, with the material to monitor your child’s progress going forward.
Our PGA certified Junior Golf Program is designed under the guidelines of the PGA of America and the American Developmental Model

“Mark in my opinion does such an amazing job of combining his uncanny spot-on observations with great humor, straightforward insight, and best of all collegiality and enthusiasm not only for helping you but also for the game of golf itself. He’s a great communicator and makes you feel comfortable from moment 1 which really helps. He just opens you up to being excited about your own game again by helping you understand how you can keep working on getting better both with him and on your own so the improvements stick. It’s just fantastic to feel like you’ve got a real partner in your game.”
“I was looking for someone that could not only help my high school sophomore but could instruct him in a manner it would be enjoyable for both parties. I had met Mark a few times playing at the TI Club and knew he would be a great choice. On the way to the range Mark and Matt were already talking irons and drivers. At the range and after watching a few shots with various clubs, Mark made some adjustments to Matt’s posture, which straightened his ball flight almost instantly. Then Mark pulled him back and showed him that his right knee movement was not consistent causing a miss to the right. I had helped my son to this point in his life and at that point realized that Mark was certainly taking the torch from here. In a matter of 20 minutes, Mark had pointed out these two adjustments, that honestly, I would have never even noticed. The simple explanation of cause and effect within the swing has stuck with my son. Thanks in part to Mark, my son had a very successful year and can’t wait to get back on the island for a few more sessions .”

AMERICAN DEVELOPMENT MODEL (ADM)
PGA of AMERICA CERTIFIED JUNIOR GOLF TRAINING PROGRAM
What is the ADM?
Golf’s new pathway is built on the principles of the American Development Model (ADM), a proven, long-term development model that has been successfully applied to USA Hockey, USOC, USA Basketball and USA Lacrosse.
How does ADM work?
Creating positive experiences early, for all athletes, will keep more players engaged and retained in our sport. Introducing the right aspects or play in a structure that is fun, engaging, and progressively challenging, allows golfers of all ages to experience the challenges and joys of our sport.
Why does ADM Work?
American Development Model was designed by sports scientists to help support a lifetime affinity to sports, and to develop athletes to their greatest potential. These principles align physical and psychological development to stages, delivering appropriate skill and exercise at the appropriate time.
7 STAGES of TRAINING
STAGE 1: Active Start
Girls: Ages 0-6
Boys: Ages 0-6
Gets kids moving and eventually linking those smaller movements together in play
STAGE 2: FUNdamentals
Girls: Ages 6-8
Boys: Ages 6-9
Develops movement skills for play focused on fun, inclusive, multisport and developmentally appropriate activities.
STAGE 3: Learn to Play
Girls: Ages 8-11
Boys: Ages 9-12
Further develop all fundamental movement skills and teaching of general golf skills
STAGE 4: Play to Improve
Girls: Ages 11-15
Boys: Ages 12-16
Introduces training to further develop golf specific skills based on puberty and growth spurts
STAGE 5: Play to Compete
Girls: Ages 15-21
Boys: Ages 16-23
Teaches golfers to perform under a variety of conditions during training encouraging the athlete’s competitive spirit
STAGE 6: Play to Win
Girls: Ages 18+
Boys: Ages 19+
Reinforces, refines and optimizes technical, tactical and ancillary skills with an end goal of winning
STAGE 7: Play Golf for Life
Encourages fun and inclusive programming for golfers of all ages and ability levels.

Golf Clinic Notes
For the past 5 years, I have sent out emails to my students following private lessons and clinics with a recap of the topics that we discussed. I am grateful that these notes have been so well received and appreciate all the great feedback. It certainly helps to have a written document that you can reference as you set out to make adjustments in your golf game.
Starting this spring, I am going to be sending out the clinic notes to anyone who would like to view them. If you would like to subscribe to the free weekly GOLF CLINIC NEWSLETTER send me an email ([email protected]) and I will be happy to add you to the list.
If you have any questions on these notes, please don’t hesitate to ask. The notes usually FOLLOW a clinic or lesson on the topic we discussed but I have tried to compose the notes as if the reader did not attend the clinic. I always appreciate feedback and suggestions so please let me know what you think.
If there is an instructional topic that you would like me to discuss, please send me a note. I’m always thinking of new or different clinics that we can run at Thousand Islands Country Club.
I will have this year’s clinic schedule available in the next few weeks. Tentatively I’m planning on holding them on Wednesday afternoons and Thursday mornings. I will also be posting this year’s Junior Clinic Schedule shortly. Participation in the Junior Clinics are up an incredible 200% since 2013. I can’t tell you how thrilled we are to see the kids out on the golf course enjoying themselves. We will probably be adding more dates this summer to accommodate the growing numbers.
